At the beginning of September we welcomed a new group of peers transitioning from the toddler classroom and some new from other locations. Since they were new to the classroom, we wanted to focus on simple activities to start, allowing them to ease in before gradually introducing more challenging activities (letters, numbers etc.) Educator Adeena created an activity that was both engaging and learning focused. The activity that Adeena created was a webbed tape activity, where the children used tongs to grab pom-poms without ripping the tape around the tuff tray. This developed their fine motor skills, specifically hand-eye coordination, and grip strength. Using tongs required them to practice precision, enhancing their dexterity and control. The challenge of avoiding the tape also fostered patience and focus, as they had to carefully maneuver within boundaries. Additionally, this activity encouraged problem-solving and strategy, as they figured out how to grasp the pom-poms while navigating the tape. The children then transferred the Pom poms to a bowl as they grabbed them with the tongs.
