Let's Make Cloud Dough!

School-age 1

This month there has been a lot of interest towards sensory exploration within the JKK program, leading to some great conversations and interactions. Most notably, our experience making cloud dough. The children helped to measure the ingredients, pour them into the bowls, and then mix the ingredients together to create the dough. They also helped to decide on the colours we would add to the dough.
Once the dough was mixed together, the children spoke about their different observations. They took note of how the dough felt in their hands, some stating that “the texture feels very soft and smooth,” while others expressed interest in how the colours were able to be blended together.
To further sensory based learning opportunities within our program we would like to continue to introduce new materials, and perhaps introduce a few different materials at a time in order to expand more on what may happen when different materials are mixed together, allowing the children to explore how textures can change.
