Christmas Tree Trimming

Preschool 2

Coming back to child care after the holiday season, the children in Preschool 2 were so excited to share their adventures over the holidays. To expand on the excitement buzzing through the classroom, the educators decided to do something fun with the Christmas trees donated to our playground. Both preschool rooms enjoyed taking turns to cut branches off of the trees together. The educators showed the children how to use the saw to cut the branches, and then we brought those big branches into our classroom to explore further. We put them on the table and said, "Can we trim those branches?" Some friends said, "I want to help, but I can not use the saw. It is too big for me." Other friends said, "We have scissors!" The educator handed out some scissors for friends to cut the branches, and noticed that children were concentrating very hard on cutting them. Educators overheard some friends saying, "Be careful, do not cut your fingers!"

It is nice to see friends developing their fine motor skills, practicing sharing, waiting for their turns, and helping each other!

Once we were done cutting the branches with the scissors, the children collected all the small pieces that were trimmed and decided to tape those branches on the wall to decorate our classroom.
