What better way to get kids excited about science than with an experiment straight out of a spy novel? Write a secret message using colorless ink, wait for it to dry, then use a special secret solution to reveal the message. Today our School-age 2 children sat down and wrote secret messages using a base solution (Baking soda and warm water) and once done and dried, they used turmeric and hand sanitizer solution which acts as an indicator to reveal the message. As soon as the turmeric reacts with the baking soda, it produces a red color indicating that baking soda is a base. Amilia, Eliora printed their handprints while Piper did her handprints but chose to only reveal 4 fingers which made it look like one of her fingers is missing because the 5th one was invisible. Some of the children chose to draw patterns of flowers and some chose to paint dots. Surprisingly, a lot of children were not aware about what turmeric is and it was a fun experience to explain and tell them how a lot of cultures use turmeric on a daily basis in their cooking. STEM education is important as it offers several benefits to students, from developing programs that allow for deeper learning to teaching them critical skills they can use to succeed in life. It enhances innovative thinking, encourages curiosity and inspires creativity which is all these young minds need.
