Over the last couple of weeks, the preschool children at RisingOaks Early Learning | Our Lady of Fatima noticed the leaves change to beautiful shades of red, yellow and orange. We explored why this happened and introduced different types of trees and leaves through hands-on activities like leaf rubbings, making wreaths with leaves and games.
Each week, we went on either a nature walk or in our beautiful playground filled of colouful leaves to collect the fall treasures. These activities helped the children observe the changes in nature, get fresh air, and strengthen their curiosity about the natural world.
During one of these adventures, some children expressed a desire to bring nature inside. This opened up a wonderful opportunity for creativity and sensory exploration. Mia, Chole, and Ola worked together to collect leaves, showing great teamwork as they gathered their autumn treasures for inside activity themselves.
Joanne, with a big smile on her face, picked up a bunch of colourful leaves and said, “I made flowers for you.” as she arranged them into a beautiful display. Meanwhile, Mason, with excitement in his voice, stood in front of a tree covered with colourful leaves and said, “Tree and Me!” wanting to capture the moment before all the leaves had fallen. His words reflected a special connection with nature and the changing seasons.
These moments of discovery, creativity, and teamwork highlight the children’s growing understanding of the world around them. Their curiosity about the fall season continues to deepen, and the exploration of nature through play will be something we continue to cherish in our program.
