Over the past month, the children have been curious about plants and where they come from. After making these observations, the Educators planned an experience for the children to foster this interest. The children enjoyed a hands-on activity of learning the process of how to grow plants from seeds. They were excited and focused and concentrated on each step of this activity. The children had fun scooping soil and then pouring it into a container, adding seeds (some children slowly dropped the seeds, some sprinkled them) and then watering them after they finished seeding.
The joys and benefits from this planting activity promoted the children's development in many ways as planting is a fantastic way to engage with nature and enhance a greater understanding of the natural world. This experience also encourages the development of fine and gross motor skills, social, language, cognitive skills, patience, concentration, and use of their senses. Planting seeds provides a hands-on way to learn about science and the environment as the children will observe and discover how plants grow.
