Happy Pride Month

Print
Program Name: Infant

During June each year, there are lots of opportunities for not only adults but also children to celebrate Pride Month through activities that are fun, informative and – most of all – show the importance of inclusion and affirmation of who we are. To participate in this special event, an infant educator was setting up a welcoming rainbow coloured tuff tray set.

We captured several exciting faces, curious eyes and big smiles when the little friends walked in the class. To introduce pride month in an age appropriate way, we brought out many different toys which are rainbow stacking towers, blocks, cubes, transparent light table objects and a variety of textured fabrics, all based around the colours involved. In addition, there are many sensory toys as pop-its, instruments which bring up opportunities for the infants to practice their fine motor skills. Together with their peers and educators, we nurtured their curiosity about colours to create a matching game also a simple colour identifying song game. We heard the children saying “Wow”, “ Red”, “Yellow”, and giggles endlessly when some friends identified the colours. Life is so much easier when we know about the colours, right? Moreover, this activity kept children engaged and helped them work on their turn taking and patience, as they had to take turns with the toys. What a fun-filled activity!

Last but not least, the infant program stands strong for Pride and it is all about celebrating who you are no matter who you love.
