Tell us a bit about yourself and why you chose RisingOaks for yourfamily’s child care needs?
Given that our son is our first child, we only had a vague idea about good childcare. Now that he's been in care for over 6 months, we've realized that attention to detail is key, making sure each child's unique needs are met. We find that RisingOaks delivers in this aspect.
Directors, and parents who have a child in care for whom monthly fees are paid to RisingOaks Early Learning are eligible to become members of the organization. What does it mean to be a member?
It means having a vested interest in the success of the organization that cares for our child when we cannot. RisingOaks' success means our childs success.
Share a fond memory from your childhood that has stayed with you over the years? How has this and other similar moments influenced your parenting style?
I grew up in a house full of people. There were always people around. I recall receiving warmth from extended family and friends, which gave me the need for community as an adult. This value influences my parenting style in that I would like my son to be supported by more than just his parents, to have a group of people that love him and provide support in a different way than his parents.
How do you find work-life balance and still meet your commitment to RisingOaks' Board?
My day job is very demanding and I often feel guilty for not being around more for my son. It has forced me to treasure every moment I have with him and build systems of efficiency in my day to day routine. I am also reminded that having my own life and pursuits, such as being on the board of Risingoaks, is important for my son to see. I would like him to learn that self-care, being part of something greater than himself, and giving back to the community are important. This motivates and gives me energy on days that are overwhelmingly long.
