This month, the School-age 1 children at RisingOaks Early Learning | Saint John Paul II have continued to demonstrate a strong and developing interest in art and craft activities. They frequently choose to spend their free time drawing, painting, and exploring a variety of creative materials. To support this interest and provide a new sensory experience, the children participated in a Valentine’s Day craft activity that encouraged active engagement, creativity, and meaningful social interactions. The experience began with a group discussion about the meaning of Valentine’s Day and the different ways we can show love and kindness to friends and family. This discussion supported the children’s language development and social-emotional understanding. The children showed great enthusiasm and curiosity as they explored the provided materials, including pre-cut heart shapes, glue, glitter, and felt decorations. Throughout the activity, the children remained focused and engaged, carefully decorating their hearts while confidently expressing their ideas and intentions through conversation. Comments such as, “I am decorating a heart,” “I am making it for my mummy and sister,” “I am making a rainbow,” and “I am making a butterfly,” highlighted their creativity and communication skills. The activity supported fine motor development through hands-on manipulation of materials and encouraged cooperation, turn-taking, and respect for peers. The children’s creations were displayed on the School-age 1 parent bulletin board under the theme “Love is in the Air.” When the children saw their artwork displayed, they were excited and happy to see their work showcased, further boosting their confidence and sense of achievement.
